About the Course

In this training, Megan will share the basics of EMDR and Narrative Therapy Techniques for targeting some of the most challenging barriers in treatment. You will learn and identify practical skills from both EMDR and Narrative therapy and step-by-step ways to use these with clients. Trauma is everywhere and this presentation will help you learn how to navigate the many faces of trauma with practical application techniques while also learning the methodology of EMDR, memory reconsolidation, and memory integration.

Megan Salar, MSW, ACADC, is a Certified EMDR Clinician and Trainer. Megan has also received a license as an Advanced Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and formally owned/operated one of the largest treatment centers for substance abuse and trauma in Southeast Idaho, voted best in practice for 2019. Her trainings have helped thousands of clinicians across the U.S. get the most out of EMDR, trauma and addiction-based skills and practices. She has trained internationally at the International Society of Addiction Medicine in India, the International Conference on Addiction Research and Therapy in Amsterdam, and ongoing with the Psicologia Institute of Italy. Megan has extensively been trained on the use of EMDR as a treatment protocol and uses EMDR in her practice to achieve improved outcomes with a broad spectrum of clients in the areas of trauma, abuse, attachment and substance abuse. She serves as an expert witness at the state and federal level for her superior knowledge surrounding trauma. Megan is the author of EMDR Workbook for Trauma and PTSD: Skills to Manage Triggers, Move Beyond Traumatic Memories; and Take Back Your Life.

Learning Objectives

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. 1 Describe the methodology of EMDR and memory reconsolidation.
  2. 2 Explain the information processing theory and 3 prong approach of EMDR for trauma.
  3. 3 Identify how maladaptive cognitive patterns occur when trauma is experienced or triggered.
  4. 4 Implement ways to safely engage in restricted processing.
  5. 5 Recognize when narrative therapy exercises may be appropriate when working with trauma.
  6. 6 Identify how narrative therapy engages in trauma reprocessing.
