Laurie Blackman, PhD, LMSW, ASW-G

Laurie Blackman, PhD, LMSW, ASW-G, is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work. She teaches courses on aging, cultural diversity, and policy, and serves as the Sequence Chair for Human Behavior and Cultural Diversity. Dr. Blackman provides guidance to therapists, caseworkers, and administrators on effectively using Motivational Interviewing (MI) in their work with clients. As a certified Aging-in-Place Specialist, she has over 25 years of specialized training in gerontology. Laurie began her career by developing and implementing programs for older adults that focused on fitness, socialization, in-home care, job re-entry, and learning in retirement. Through her research and teaching, she is dedicated to offering support and resources to older adults and their families.
