On the Calendar: Observances & Awareness in May
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and AAPI Heritage Month.
Every month, the calendar fills with moments worth pausing for.
But here in May, for those of us working in physical and behavioral health (clinicians, therapists, counselors, and care providers of every kind), two observances this month carry particular weight: Mental Health Awareness Month and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.
At Impact CE, we believe that continuing education is one of the most powerful tools a practitioner can reach for, not only to maintain licensure, but to deepen the quality of care they bring to every client, every session, every day.
This May, we are proud to spotlight courses that speak directly to both of these awareness moments, offering our community meaningful opportunities to grow right alongside the conversations happening in the broader world.
AAPI Heritage Month
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, observed each May since being officially designated by Congress in 1992, honors the generations of AAPI individuals whose contributions have shaped the culture, history, and fabric of the United States. But beyond celebration, May is also a moment of recognition of the unique challenges, barriers, and lived experiences that define the AAPI community's relationship with health, wellness, and care.
For physical and behavioral health professionals, AAPI Heritage Month is an opportunity to reflect on cultural competency, examine the systemic gaps that continue to affect AAPI access to mental health services, and recommit to providing care that is truly inclusive. Understanding the nuances of the AAPI experience is not just good practice, it is essential to building the kind of therapeutic trust that makes healing possible.

Mental Health Awareness Month
First observed in 1949 by Mental Health America, Mental Health Awareness Month has grown into one of the most widely recognized public health observances in the United States. Each May, advocates, organizations, and individuals across the country come together to combat stigma, share resources, and elevate the conversation around mental health as a universal concern.
For behavioral health professionals, this month is both a celebration of the work they do every day and a call to keep pushing the boundaries of what compassionate, evidence-informed care can look like. With mental health challenges affecting millions of Americans across every demographic and walk of life, the need for well-trained, culturally aware practitioners has never been greater.
