About the Course

This course presents an empirically based model for treating cocaine addiction in a group setting. This Group Drug Counseling (GDC) manual addresses common issues in the early and middle stages of recovery from addiction, and is based on the philosophy that cocaine addiction is a complex biopsychosocial disease. Issues addressed include stabilization procedure, overview of group treatment, supervision of group counselors, case management , and family involvement. The psychoeducational group sessions are presented and discussed, as are problem-solving groups. Suggested readings and educational videos are given for treatment professionals, clients, and families.

This course is based on the reading online article, Drug Counseling for Cocaine Addiction: The Collaborative Cocaine Treatment Study Model created by Daley, Dennis C., Ph.D, et al. in 2002.
