About the Course

The ACA Code of Ethics provides information for counselors regarding all facets of the counseling profession and the ethical practice thereof. The ACA Code of Ethics serves as a point of reference and professional benchmarking when facing ethical dilemmas and daily practice scenarios. This course educates the counselor on ethics and tests the counselor’s proficiency in the ethics of the counseling profession.

Dr. Gibson is a Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years in research, clinical and consulting practice. He has also held leadership roles in research administration and program evaluation and more recently has specialized in program evaluation and system analysis. He draws upon his years of expertise as a practicing psychologist, administrator, researcher and technologist to help universities evaluate their programs to implement, meet, and maintain CACREP standards.

Target Audience

This basic to intermediate course material is designed for those engaging in the counseling profession who may gain professionally from increased knowledge of the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics. This course will also benefit those in beginning levels of counseling supervision.

Learning Objectives

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. 1 Clarify the nature of ethical responsibilities held in common by members (ACA, 2005).
  2. 2 Support the mission of the American Counseling Association (ACA, 2005).
