About the Course

Since the beginning of time human beings have had a need to honor the memory of loved ones who've died. This webinar offers a survey of the Mourning practices and beliefs which reflected the values of the culture and of the times as evidenced by fashion, literature, film and television. We will also examine the Theories of Grief that evolved along with theories of psychology beginning with Freud and including Bowlby, Lindemann, Erickson, Parkes and McGoldrick. We will also look at the influence of these theorists on the free standing theories of grief prominent at the end of the 20th century and into the 21st, courtesy of Worden, Silverman and Rando , which have shaped the way grief therapy and grief counseling is provided in western culture today.

This course is based on the recorded webinar, The Evolution of Theories of Grief created by Lauren Schneider, LCSW
