About the Course

Anorexia nervosa is a debilitating, often chronic, and sometimes fatal eating disorder that typically onsets in adolescence. The cause of anorexia nervosa is likely complex, and much remains unknown. As a result, current treatments have limited effectiveness, especially for adults. This course describes the promising outcomes of a novel intensive 5-day, multi-family treatment for adults with anorexia nervosa and their support system that targets neurobiologically-based temperament traits to reduce symptoms and improve functioning. Findings suggest this is a feasible, acceptable, and potentially effective approach to reduce symptoms of anorexia nervosa. This study begins to address the critical need to develop and test neurobiologically-targeted treatments for adults with AN.

This course is based on the reading online article, The Acceptability Feasibility and Possible Benefits of a Neurobiologically-informed 5-day Multifamily Treatment for Adults With Anorexia Nervosa created by Christina E. Wierenga, PhD et al
