About the Course

Findings show unequivocally that providing comprehensive drug abuse treatment to criminal offenders works, reducing both drug abuse and criminal recidivism. The substantial prison population in the United States is attributable in large part to drug-related offenses and is accompanied by high rates of recidivism. This article discusses treatment options for substance abuse in the criminal justice population.

This course is based on the reading online article, Principles of Drug Abuse Treatment for Criminal Justice Populations-A Research-Based Guide created by Bennett W. Fletcher, Ph.D. et al in 2014.
