Hana Kuc is a Licensed Mental Heath counselor and a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor who has been working in the field for 13 years. In that time she has worked as a counselor, therapist, educator and director. Hana has specialized in working with clients on medication assisted treatment, who are in recovery from opiates, and are also diagnosed with a mental health disorder.

Target Audience

This course is recommended for behavioral/mental health professionals and students/interns who are seeking knowledge about motivational interviewing. This course is appropriate for a beginner level (student/intern) and/or early-career professionals and/or other professionals at any level of experience who are interested in learning the basics of motivational interviewing.

Learning Objectives

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. 1 Define motivational interviewing and identify the principles of motivational interviewing.
  2. 2 Describe and discuss the phases of motivational interviewing and the counselor's role in the process.
  3. 3 Describe and discuss some of the techniques and methods of motivational interviewing, as well as the philosophical basis for these strategies.
