About the Course

Several countries have implemented national guidelines for eating disorder (ED) treatment of high quality. Guidelines recommend evidence-based treatment and best clinical practice. Creating national clinical guidelines is, however, a time-consuming task and in many countries/regions, launching such an initiative is not feasible. Furthermore, in the vast majority of non-Western countries/regions implementing manualized ED treatment for the broader group of patients with ED can be challenging or even a non-existent option for the local health care professionals. As EDs occur in all cultures, the lack of available transnational guidelines is less than ideal. The purpose of this workshop is to provide an impression of the challenges health care professionals treating patients with ED in non-Western parts of the world may face. Thus, Carine el Khazen, and Eva Maria Trujillo Chi Vacuan will present on eating disorder treatment in the Middle East and South America respectively. At the workshop, various international guidelines including AED Psychological Treatment Standards (presented by Glenn Waller), AED Medical Standards (presented by Rebecka Peebles), International Nutrition & Feeding Guidelines (presented by Jillian Lampert), and the PCAC Transnational Minimum Standard of Care (action cards) for Eating Disorders (presented by Gry Kjaersdam Telléus) will be presented. Finally, the workshop will include a plenary discussion on whether these transnational guidelines and the concept of cross-cultural standards are applicable on a global scale.

This course is based on the video, Going Global - A Transnational Approach to Guidelines for Eating Disorders With the AED Partnership, Chapter & Affiliate Committee PCAC created by Gry Kjaersdam Telleus, PhD et al in 2020.
