This course examines a systematic review of pharmacotherapies for stimulant use disorders conducted by the department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration. It includes: antidepressants, antipsychotics, psychostimulants, cognitive enhancing drugs, anxiolytics, pharmacotherapies that are prescribed for other substance use disorders, opioid agonists, anticonvulsants and muscle relaxants, dopamine agonists, pharmacotherapies for comorbid cocaine use disorders and opioid disorders, findings by subpopulations, pharmacotherapies for methamphetamine use disorder, pharmacotherapies for comorbid methamphetamine use disorder and opioid use disorder, and dozens of tables of data including a breakdown of each drug class examined for each disorder based on abstinence, use, lapse, relapse, retention and harms.

Dr. Brian Chan is an assistant professor of medicine at OHSU Department of Medicine, division of general internal medicine and geriatrics and addiction medicine section. His primary research interest is to develop and evaluate clinical innovations to improve care for medically and socially complex patients, including those with substance use disorders. His career goal is to develop methods for using readily available data to inform targeting and development of clinical interventions to improve substance use care for complex patients. He has had multiple work published on government websites and in peer reviewed journals.
