Learning Objectives

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. 1 Outline the need for evidence-based screening and assessment instruments that are effective for the justice population.
  2. 2 Identify three specific screening tools for mental disorders and co-occurring disorders for a criminal justice population.
  3. 3 Identify two specific screening tools for substance use disorders in a criminal justice population.
  4. 4 Identify four assessment instruments for trauma and PTSD in the justice system.
  5. 5 Identify four assessment instruments for suicide in the justice system.
  6. 6 Summarize the appropriate instruments, given the variable of diagnosis, severity of symptoms, drug of choice, history and onset of use, trauma, and suicide risk.
