About the Course

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidenced-based treatment approach that views the psyche as being divided into “parts”. In this webinar, Dr. Fatter will review the stages of IFS therapy including the three types of parts unique to IFS and the theoretical underpinnings of the model. Dr. Fatter will also explain why IFS is effective, including what we know to date about memory reconsolidation and dual attention processing. In addition, Dr. Fatter will discuss ways to introduce your client to IFS including how to apply IFS at your first contact with new clients and options for how to integrate IFS with current clients. Vignettes will be used to demonstrate the application of IFS among various clinical presentations. Given that IFS is an experiential therapy, an aspect of providing IFS therapy is for clinicians to be aware of when their own parts are activated. Participants will learn about the model through guided meditations throughout the webinar to invite participants curiosity about their own parts. Dr. Fatter will discuss ways to know if IFS is a good fit for clients. Common initial mistakes clinicians make when first starting to use IFS with clients will also be addressed.

This course is based on the recorded webinar, Internal Family Systems Therapy: Why It Works & How to Know If It’s a Good Fit created by Daphne M. Fatter, Ph.D. in 2022.
