About the Event

Clients who struggle with chronic mental health symptoms and addictive patterns have a difficult time identifying, tolerating, and regulating their feelings. They often respond to their emotions in a polarized manner which triggers their “fight or flight” response. Consequently, the “fight or flight” response breaks down the feedback loop between mind and body, which over time, will be expressed through psychiatric or medical symptoms and diagnoses.

In this workshop, Mrs. Caldwell Engle will review the impact on emotional development caused by unresolved trauma, suppression, and dissociation. She will explain the importance of an integrated functional approach to treatment and recovery. She will also introduce a conceptual tool that explains the difference between healthy and unhealthy feelings, identifies patterns of suppression and dissociation, and provides opportunities for desensitization techniques. She will demonstrate how this helps to identify the root of all addictive behaviors, and the often co-occurring physical and mental health symptoms. She will provide specific cognitive and experiential treatment assignments and interventions.

This approach is applicable to any client who is stuck in addictive and self-defeating behaviors. Clinical examples and case vignettes will be given, along with time for Q and A.

Live Event This is a live online event. It will be conducted via Zoom Webinar.
