About the Event

This class addresses some of the most common mental health and mood disorders seen in our culture today. In addition to reviewing some of the pathophysiology and contributing factors to mental health and mood-related conditions, we will discuss common conventional treatment options, and what we know about how massage therapy can have the most positive impact for clients who live with these challenges. In alignment with the newest edition of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V), this class will examine various types of depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

The research about the positive effects of massage for mood disorders is strong and consistent, and it is our responsibility to deliver the safest, and most compassionate, and most effective massage therapy our clients can ask for. Live Event Instructor

Ruth Werner, BCTMB

Ruth Werner, BCTMB is an award-winning educator, writer, and former massage therapist with a passionate interest in massage therapy research and the role of bodywork for people who live with health challenges. Her groundbreaking textbook, A Massage Therapist’s Guide to Pathology was first published in 1998, and is now in its 7th edition, published by Books of Discovery.

Ruth is a columnist for Massage and Bodywork magazine, and she teaches continuing education workshops in research, ethics, and pathology both live and virtually all over the world. She also does a popular podcast, “I Have a Client Who… Pathology Conversations with Ruth Werner”, available wherever you get your podcasts.

Ruth was proud to serve the Massage Therapy Foundation as a Trustee from 2007 to 2017, and as President of the Foundation from 2010-2014.

Ruth is an Approved Provider with the National Certifying Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (Provider # 282893-00) and Board Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (# 008704-00).
