About the Course

This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially psychologists, counselors, social workers, and nurses who provide services to or seek knowledge about a practical approach to helping the explosive child at home and at school. Whether unfamiliar or familiar with some of the concepts involved in this material, you can benefit from information in this course. In this groundbreaking new audio, Dr. Ross Greene makes a compassionate argument that the difficulties of explosive children stem from developmental deficits in two critical skills: flexibility and frustration tolerance. Drawing upon recent advances in the neurosciences, Dr. Greene describes the factors that contribute to “inflexible-explosive” behavior in children and why the strategies that work for most children aren’t as effective for them. He then lays out a sensitive, practical approach to helping these children in home and school.

The author is Director of Cognitive-Behavioral Psychology at the Clinical and Research Program in Pediatric Psychopharmacology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he specializes in the treatment of inflexible=explosive children and adolescents and their families. He is also Associate Clinical Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
