The landscape of adolescent anxiety and anxiety related disorders has become more complex with the impact of social media, school pressures, and the COVID-19 pandemic. As clinicians, we need to better differentiate anxiety related disorders in adolescents in order to serve this population, ensuring the use of correct interventions. Clinicians in all settings need to understand the variety of anxiety presentations and be able to recognize and navigate the nuances in diagnosis. This talk will discuss the mechanics of anxiety related disorders while describing common clinical missteps often seen in treatment. Clinicians will be able to identify clinical differences between worry and rumination, symptoms often accompanying anxiety disorders. This presentation will illustrate a variety of evidenced-based interventions, including Exposure Response Prevention, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and expressive arts.

After taking this activity, you should be able to:
- Demonstrate mechanics of anxiety.
- Identify clinical differences between worry and rumination.
