About the Event

This training will explore the current state of racism and race-based trauma. Racism can be traumatizing, emerging out of the confluence of historical, cultural, and individual traumatic experiences. We will explore our experiences, perceptions, beliefs, and behaviors that may challenge constructive relationship development. Finally, we will discuss practical, culturally Intelligent, trauma-responsive strategies to keep our work moving forward in pro-social activities and service delivery. This will be an opportunity to discuss how to address racism to serve best the people you support and connect with colleagues.

This is a live online event. It will be conducted via Zoom Webinar.

Brandon Jones

Brandon Jones

Brandon is the Executive Director of Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health. He specializations in Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), Historical and Intergenerational trauma, Social/Emotional Intelligence (EQ), Leadership, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Brandon holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Minnesota, a Masters in Community Psychology from Metropolitan State University, and a Masters in Adlerian Counseling and Psychotherapy (MFT) from Adler Graduate School. Brandon is Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Qualified Administrator. Brandon is Bush Foundation Leadership Fellow (2013) and Professor graduate and undergraduate studies. He lives by the motto of “Live life with Purpose on Purpose.”

Target Audience

This live interactive webinar is intended for behavioral health professionals, including Psychologists, Social Workers, Counselors, MFT's and Addiction Professionals.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. 1 Analyze how historical, cultural, and individual experiences of racism contribute to race-based traumatic stress.
  2. 2 Evaluate the impact of race-based traumatic stress on individuals and communities.
  3. 3 Assess how personal perceptions, beliefs, and behaviors may create barriers to cross-cultural relationships and trauma-responsive service delivery.
  4. 4 Apply culturally intelligent, trauma-responsive strategies in professional practice to address racism and promote healing.
  5. 5 Implement approaches that enhance pro-social outcomes for individuals and communities affected by race-based traumatic stress.
