About the Course

This book looks at a broad spectrum of clinical applications of drawing that assist clinicians in both the initial assessment process and subsequent therapy sessions.  Providing a unique blend of assessment techniques and therapeutic uses of drawings, this paperback text is a practical resource for clinicans working in a variety of treatment settings.  This edition updates literature reviews and provides new case studies and illustrations that highlight the ease of using drawings during diagnostic and beginning therapy sessions, as well as dealing with the unresolved issues of termination.  Chapters focus on individual work, family systems theories, and group therapy, placing special emphasis on such timely issues as trauma, family violence, and substance abuse.

Dr. Oster has been a licensed psychologist for over 20 years working in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. Presently in private practice in Olney, Maryland, he also provides evaluations and consultations at the Expressive Therapy Center, Montgomery General Hospital, and the Sheppard Pratt-Jefferson School. He has been a former Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Maryland Medical School, as well as past Psychology Internship Director at the Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents. Besides his clinical work, Dr. Oster has co-authored seven other books on children and adolescents. Patricia (Gould) Crone is a Kentucky Board Certified Art Therapist. She has served on the Kentucky Board of Certification for Professional Art Therapists for two terms and is presently its Chair. She is also Regional Coordinator of Child Sexual Abuse for Kentucky River Community Care, where she conducts evaluations and assessments and provides supervision and training. Besides her clinical duties, Ms. Crone co-authored the first edition of "Using Drawings in Assesment and Therapy, and has published reviews of other books on drawing theory and practice. She has also made conference presentations on the subject of art therapy and has been an active member of art therapy organizations.
