Addressing Diverse Populations in Intensive Outpatient Treatment (TIP 47, Chapter 10): Substance Abuse: Clinical Issues in Intensive Outpatient Treatment examines the importance of cultural competence to substance abuse treatment. Reviewing research that supports the need for individualized treatment, the chapter describes 14 principles for the delivery of cultural competent services and explores topics of special concern. Several different population groups are explored, and they each concentrate on the groups demographic characteristics, statistics on substance use, clinical considerations, and implications of intensive outpatient treatment (IOT). A chapter appendix contains an extensive list of resources on culturally competent treatment and on treating members of each population.
