About the Course

Friedreich ataxia is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by symptoms such as progressive gait and limb ataxia, weakness, reflex and deep sensory loss, and skeletal deformations. Although depression is well known to negatively impact quality of life and disease progression, few studies have examined its role in Friedreich ataxia. This study addresses this deficit by assessing the relationship between depressive symptoms and the slowing of information processing speed in addition to other clinical variables.

Dr. Henderson completed her PhD in clinical psychology at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda MD, and my internship at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Medical Center in San Antonio TX. She is am an integrative therapist who focuses on brief, positive, solutions-focused therapy and is experienced in treating a variety of mental health concerns-- depression, anxiety, stress, grief, trauma, parenting concerns, and more. She is currently practicing in Alaska.

Target Audience

Counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists and social workers. It is appropriate for participants’ whose knowledge is intermediate or above.
