About the Course

This course provides a broad review of the opioid epidemic by outlining the scope and origins of the epidemic and addressing potential solutions and approaches to solve and, ultimately, eradicate the epidemic. Some proposed immediate solutions incorporate the use of abuse-deterrent opioid formulations, medication-assisted therapies, and naloxone distribution to treat opioid overdose. Also reviewed are longer-term innovative approaches which incorporate longer-term strategic solutions, and policy integration.

This course is based on the article, The Opioid Epidemic: Crisis and Solutions created by Phil Skolnick, PhD, DSc in 2018.
