About the Course

This course examines Gambling Disorder (GD) and it’s psychological underpinnings. It explains: problematic vs pathological gambling, co-occurring depression in gambling disorder, types of problematic gambling, online interventions for depressive symptoms, and online interventions for addiction problems. The study has some methodology issues that adversely affected the results, but the results do show promise and raise topics and methodology changes in this population for future study.

Lara Bucker, M.Sc
Lara, recently completed her dissertation and is working as a research psychologist at Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Hamburg, Germany. She has published multiple papers on internet based interventions.
Julia Bierbrodt
Julie is a clinical psychologist at the Psychiatry Outpatient Center for Personality Disorders, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Hamburg, Germany. Her research interests are social cognition and emotion regulation in borderline personality disorder and internet-based treatment of depression and pathological gambling.
Professor Iver Hand
Iver Hand worked at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, University Medical Center Hamburg - Eppendorf from 1974-2006. With his team he did research in Behavior Therapy (BT), Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine - mainly in Anxiety Disorders (AD), OCD and Pathological Gambling (PG), with more than 300 publications .He developed a new approach to Exposure Treatments ("Exposure-Response-Management",ERM, instead of the traditional "Exposure-Response-Prevention", ERP), and he extended BT into "Systemic-Strategic Behavior Therapy". Since 2016 he continues PG research at the new BT Center MVZ Falkenried in Hamburg ("Spieler-Projekt",see: www.hand.vt-falkenried.de).

Sandi Cardaman has been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for more than 15 years. She has worked with eating disorders, domestic violence and clients who are working with the dependency system.
