Each TIP involves the development of topic-specific best-practice guidelines for the prevention and treatment of substance use and mental disorders. TIPs draw on the experience and knowledge of clinical, research, and administrative experts of various forms of treatment and prevention. TIPs are distributed to facilities and individuals across the country. Published TIPs can be accessed at http://store.samhsa.gov.

  2. 2 Discuss the role of trauma in substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, the use of trauma-informed services, and the provision of integrated treatment for women with trauma-related symptoms and substance use disorders.
  3. 3 Identify and discuss the most critical aspects of recovery management, as well as the benefits of consumer participation in programming, the characteristics of a healing environment for treatment, and the main components of program planning/administration and staff development.
