About the Course

This course discusses the treatment of veterans with PTSD and substance use issues. It examines specialized intensive VA treatment such as: Evaluation/Brief Treatment PTSD Units (EBTPUs), Specialized Inpatient PTSD Units (SIPUs), and PTSD Residential Rehabilitation Programs (PRRPs). Substance abuse outcomes were measured by the Addiction Severity Index (ADI). Clinical status was measured by the Short Form of the Mississippi Scale for PTSD (MISS), which was developed to assess combat PTSD symptoms. Various clinical variables were measures, including violence. Many correlations were noted, however causality was not established.

Dr. Stefanovics is a research scientist at the Yale School of Medicine
Robert Rosenheck, M.D.
Dr. Robert Rosenheck is a Professor of Psychiatry and Public Health and at the Child Study Center at Yale Medical School where he is also Director of the Division of Mental Health Services and Outcomes Research in the Department of Psychiatry. He has published more than 700 scientific papers on topics such as performance evaluation of large homeless services systems, the causes of homelessness, the cost-effectiveness of programs for homeless persons with mental illness and antipsychotic medications.

L.A. Rankin is a social worker with experience in many different settings with a variety of clients. She has worked with dementia and Alzheimers patients, dual diagnosis MH/MR, in a battered women’s shelter, and a rape crisis center. She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.
