About the Course

This workshop will present four papers dealing with a variety of topics on the neuroscience of trauma. This presentation will cover the transfer of self-referential and episodic autobiographical memory across amnesic identities in dissociative identity disorder, presenting results from studies on the transfer of episodic self-referential memories across identities. Also addressed are the areas of progress in the connection of trauma therapy and neuroscience, of which we both need to be more aware and to explore resources, as well as how to integrate them into treatment. Disruption of the autonomic nervous system in adult survivors of childhood trauma is presented in a study examining the sexual function problems in these populations. Also discussed is the retuning of the autonomic nervous system in response to threat. This study points to the need for research to investigate how trauma induced returning of autonomic function provides a neural platform on which loss of purpose is experienced.

This course is based on the recorded webinar, The Neuroscience of Trauma created by Martin Dorahy, PhD et al in 2019.
