About the Course

Previous research has established that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have long-term effects on adult health, including unresolved trauma and substance use disorder (SUD). This article is a systematic literature review and narrative synthesis that assessed the effectiveness of psychological interventions on emotion regulation, PTSD and SUD symptoms. Authors discuss the findings of this review as well as areas of future research.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Treatment of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and Substance Use Disorder in Adults With a History of Adverse Childhood Experiences created by Genevieve Molina and Anne Whittaker, PhD (Philosophy) in 2022.
