About the Course

This comprehensive review article examines the applications of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) beyond its traditional use in treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The authors conducted a systematic literature search of empirical studies published up to 2020, focusing on EMDR’s potential efficacy in addressing a wide range of psychiatric and psychological conditions. The review synthesizes findings from group studies and case reports across various databases, including PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Web of Science. It critically evaluates the current evidence base, discusses methodological considerations, and explores the theoretical implications for EMDR’s mechanism of action. The article provides a valuable overview of EMDR’s potential broader applications in psychotherapy and identifies areas for future research.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, EMDR As Treatment Option for Conditions Other Than PTSD created by Charles Scelles, MD (Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist FMH) et al. in 2021.
