About the Course

The article provides an in-depth analysis of factors influencing gambling behavior among older adults. Through a scoping review of existing literature, the authors aim to identify the individual, socio-cultural, environmental, and commercial determinants that contribute to gambling participation in adults aged 55 and over. The article discusses the vulnerabilities of older adults to gambling harm and highlights gaps in current research, especially in addressing environmental and commercial influences. It calls for a more holistic public health response to mitigate gambling-related harms in older adults, beyond focusing solely on individual behaviors.

This course is based on the reading online article, A Scoping Review of the Individual Socio-cultural Environmental and Commercial Determinants of Gambling for Older Adults: created by Dr. Rebecca H. Johnson et al in 2023.
