About the Course

This study explores the integration of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in couple therapy through a thematic analysis of interviews with 13 licensed therapists. The findings highlight the theoretical and clinical complementarity of EFT and EMDR, as well as the potential benefits of integrating these models, such as enhanced self-regulation, reduced reactivity, and faster therapy progress. The study identifies shared goals in both models, particularly the healing of attachment injuries and relational trauma, and provides insights into how integration can address unresolved past traumas that impact present couple dynamics.

This course is based on the reading online article, Thematic Analysis of Therapists’ Experiences Integrating EMDR and EFT in Couple Therapy created by Jason N. Linder, PsyD et al in 2022.
