About the Course

This course explores how to strengthen protective factors and reduce risk factors using the Social Development Strategy (SDS). Participants will learn the theory behind SDS, including its foundation in three developmental theories, and how to apply its core elements—opportunities, skills, and recognition—to build strong bonds with youth. The course also covers the role of individual characteristics, the importance of healthy beliefs and clear standards, use of the SDS Assessment Tool, and practical strategies for institutionalizing SDS in prevention settings.
