About the Course

This continuing education course examines the results of a systematic review of the literature on traumatic brain injury (TBI) among American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations in the United States, with particular attention to Alaska-specific communities. The content of this course addresses the definition, consequences, and population data regarding TBI, including emergency department visits, hospitalizations, mortality, leading mechanisms of injury, disparities, and structural factors that contribute to inequities in TBI outcomes. This course highlights prevention, systems-level strategies, and recommendations for future directions for intervention and management of TBI among AI/AN populations.

This course is based on the reading online article, Traumatic Brain Injury Among American Indians/Alaska Natives In The United States created by Laurel A. Seltzer et al in 2025.
