About the Course

Unlike dozens of texts on workplace violence, this is an extremely informative, “how to” training text on defusing anger, hostility, and threatening behavior in the workplace. Dr. Paulk describes numerous “field tested” defusing techniques (both verbal and non-verbal), how to effectively plan confrontations, when to utilize appropriate disciplinary options, coordinating psychological rehabilitation of violent behavior (while avoiding ADA claims), and how to safely plan and monitor the termination of the potentially violent employee. Each chapter contains learning objectives, illustrative case studies, and learning checks. A sample violence policy is also included.

This course is based on the book, Alert and Alive : Defusing Anger and Violence in the Workplace created by Daniel Paulk, Ph.D.
