About the Course

Phone Coaching in Dialectical Behavior Therapy is the first comprehensive guide on this topic. Phone coaching is often a challenging aspect of delivering DBT treatment, and this book addresses the many questions clinicians have about implementing this vital DBT component. Topics include setting limits, managing suicide risk, how to coach core DBT emotion regulation and distress tolerance skills, and how to structure coaching calls.

Alexander L. Chapman, PhD, Rpsych, is a Professor and Clinical Science Area Coordinator in the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. He is also the president of the DBT Centre of Vancouver and a DBT Trainer and Consultant with Behavioral Tech. He is the author of numerous scientific publications, presents widely at scientific conferences, and is on the editorial boards of Personality Disorder: Theory, Research, and Treatment, Journal of Personality Disorders, and Behavior Therapy.

Target Audience

Counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists and social workers. This course is appropriate for all levels of knowledge. This content is at an intermediate level.

  6. 6 Distinguish how suicide crisis calls may differ from other coaching calls.
  7. 7 Summarize how clinicians can observe their limits in DBT phone coaching.
