About the Course

This course presents an integrative model of therapeutic change in child psychotherapy, based on a contemporary understanding of children’s emotions and emotional needs. The course material will demonstrate the advantages of an emotion-based clinical theory, supported by developmental, clinical, and neuroscience research, illustrated with clinical examples. An emphasis on children’s emotions allows us to retain the essential contributions of humanistic and psychodynamic theory and also make use of active strategies, derived from diverse sources, for solving children’s emotional and behavioral problems.

This course is based on the book, How to Be a Better Child Therapist created by Kenneth Barish, Ph.D. in 2018.
