About the Course

Studies have indicated that violence towards a partner peaks in adolescence. Accordingly, the study of dating violence in adolescence may facilitate an understanding of risk factors for intimate partner violence (IPV) in adulthood. This study explores the extent of perpetration of physical violence in predominately Hispanic high school students in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. The relationship between adverse childhood experiences, exposure to interparental violence, attachment, emotional regulation, and impulsivity on teen dating violence (TDV) is explored. Results emphasize the need to take context and severity of violence into consideration.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Is All Dating Violence Equal? created by Arthur Cantos, PhD, et al. in 2020.
