About the Course

This course is based on a systematic narrative review of the research concerning the topic of utilizing drama therapy with children and adolescents with psychosocial problems. In addition to providing a review of the effects, means, therapeutic attitude, and supposed mechanisms of change, this article/course also describes the related topics of overall psychosocial problems, internalizing and externalizing problems, social functioning, coping and regulation processes, social identity, and cognitive development. This article/course will provide mental health practitioners with an overview of the research literature regarding the use of drama therapy with children and adolescents who are displaying psychosocial problems, including the positive effects of drama therapy for this population.

Dr Anna-Eva Prick is Professor of Knowledge Development in Art Therapy at the Academy of Art Therapy at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences. The focus of her research group is on the elderly and people with intellectual disabilities. She has multiple articles published in peer reviewed journals.

  3. 3 Describe the potential difficulties experienced by children and adolescents with psychosocial problems, based on the research results.
  4. 4 Define and discuss drama therapy, including theory, approaches, techniques, and uses.
  5. 5 Describe and discuss the results of this systematic narrative review of the research regarding the use of drama therapy with children and adolescents with psychosocial problems.
