About the Course

This study examines the protective role of cultural factors, such as communal mastery and tribal identity, in mitigating polysubstance use among Native American adolescents and young adults on the Fort Peck Reservation. By employing a cross-sectional design with 288 participants aged 15–24 years, the researchers analyzed associations between cultural engagement, education, and substance use. Findings revealed that communal mastery, strong tribal identity, and high school education were significantly linked to reduced polysubstance use. The study underscores the importance of culturally informed strategies to address substance use in high-risk Native American communities.
