Julie Anne Laser
Dr. Julie Anne Laser is a seasoned clinical social worker with over 30 years of experience. Her expertise encompasses experiential therapy, working with military families, and trauma-focused therapy, particularly addressing PTSD. She has contributed to the field through various publications and research endeavors.
Nicole Nicotera
Dr. Nicole Nicotera is a professor at the University of Denver's Graduate School of Social Work. She has an extensive background in clinical social work, focusing on children, youth, and families. Her areas of specialization include health and wellness, mind-body social work practice, diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as research methods and social justice. Dr. Nicotera is also certified to teach evidence-based mindfulness and stress reduction courses.

Kathryn Held, Psy.D., CADC III

Kathryn Held, Psy. D associate and CADC III, is an individual therapist at Visions adolescent treatment centers. With a decade of experience in the mental health field, Kathryn specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders, OCD, and the OCD spectrum. Kathryn also has expertise in working with LGBTQ+ adolescents while navigating complex family systems. Her current research projects include adolescent suicide and the use of OCD art interventions in anxiety and OCD treatment. She is trained in CBT, ACT and Exposure and Response Prevention. Her empathetic and artistic approach helps support, educate, and instill agency in her clients. Prior to joining the Visions team, Kathryn worked in various treatment settings including detox, sober living, and as the Program Director of a dual diagnosis outpatient treatment center.

Target Audience

Counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists and social workers. This course is appropriate for intermediate and above levels of knowledge.

Learning Objectives

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  2. 2 Identify risk factors across ecological levels including concerns such as special education, ADHD, ASD, and bullying.
  3. 3 Apply knowledge of protective and risk factors to assess adolescent school challenges and successes
  4. 4 Analyze family dynamics in context, including attachment theory, parenting styles, and family systems theory
  5. 5 Evaluate assessment and intervention strategies through case examples and self-reflection.
