About the Course

Almost half of infertility cases involve male infertility. Understanding the consequence of a diagnosis of male infertility, as a sole or partial contributor to the couples’ infertility, to the mental health of men is required to ensure clinical care meets their psychological needs. The aim of this systematic analysis was to synthesize the evidence regarding whether men diagnosed with male factor infertility experience greater psychological distress than (1) men described as fertile and (2) men in couples with other infertility diagnoses.

Sarah N. Biggs, Ph.D.
Dr. Biggs was previously a Senior Research Officer at Murdoch Children's Research institute in Australia. She has several publications in peer-reviewed journals on the subject of reproductive health.
Jane Halliday, Ph.D.
Dr. Halliday is an esteemed honorary fellow member in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Melbourne, and Principal Fellow and Group Leader of Reproductive Epidemiology at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI). Since 1997, she has received grants amounting to almost $17.5million, produced 220 peer-reviewed publications, and been invited to give over 150 seminars and conference presentations.
Karin Hammarberg, RN, Ph.D.
Dr. Hallarberg is a senior research fellow at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University and a senior research officer, Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Authority. Karin’s main research interests are fertility and preconception health promotion, the psychosocial aspects of infertility and infertility treatment, health and development of children born as a result of assisted conception, infertility care in resource-constrained settings, and women’s health in midlife.

Counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists and social workers. This course is appropriate for all levels of knowledge.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  2. 2 Describe the difference in the experience of men with male factor infertility versus infertility due to other factors.
  3. 3 Summarize the factors that can increase patient-centered care for men with an infertility diagnosis.
