"I Was Treated by the Program the Therapist and Myself"

Feasibility of an Internet-Based Treatment Program for Gambling Disorder

About the Course

This feasibility study explores the implementation and acceptability of SpilleFri, an eight-module therapist-guided internet-based treatment program for individuals with gambling disorder (GD). Conducted at a Danish hospital-based clinic, the pilot program aimed to overcome common barriers to treatment, such as stigma, time constraints, and geographical limitations. Results from 24 participants indicated promising treatment completion rates, high satisfaction, and significant reductions in gambling behavior and symptoms. Patients particularly appreciated the flexibility, anonymity, and structure of the program, while therapists emphasized the importance of support sessions and digital communication. Though limited by a small sample and lack of a control group, this study supports the viability of guided digital therapy for GD and lays the groundwork for further randomized controlled trials.

This course is based on the reading online article, “I Was Treated by the Program the Therapist and Myself” created by Anna Westh Stenbro, PhD et al in 2023.
