About the Course

This intermediate-level course explores current evidence-based pharmacological and psychotherapeutic approaches to treating anxiety in individuals with eating disorders. Participants will review findings from a recent systematic review, including mixed outcomes across medication classes (e.g., antidepressants, antipsychotics, anxiolytics, psychedelics), and examine promising developments, such as the use of fluoxetine for anxiety symptoms in anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, olanzapine for anorexia-related anxiety, and emerging evidence for agents like psilocybin and ketamine. Through this training, clinicians will enhance their ability to critically evaluate treatment options, integrate pharmacological strategies with psychotherapy, and provide individualized, comprehensive care to clients facing the dual challenges of anxiety and eating disorders.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, The Pharmacological Treatment of Anxiety in People With Eating Disorders created by Rebecca Morris et al. in 2025.
