About the Course

This training incorporates current research and insights from neuroscience, connecting them to everyday experiences related to the impact of trauma and stress. Participants will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of how stress and trauma affect all aspects of life—particularly the stress response system, or “survival brain.” The session will explore the purpose and function of the stress response system, and how both the brain and body are affected. These concepts will be connected to current real-world stressors and the experience of vicarious trauma. Participants will also reflect on the idea of self-care—or rather, “taking good care of yourself”—especially in the context of working with people who have experienced trauma and navigating stressors that affect us all in various ways. Finally, participants will be introduced to simple, effective strategies for caring for themselves in daily life.

This course is based on the recorded webinar, Trauma Stress and Uncertainty: Why Taking Care of Yourself Is Essential created by Donna Lucero, MA, LPCC, NCC et al in 2025.
