About the Event

This session introduces the Cultural Intelligence (CQ) framework as a practical model for navigating cultural, generational, and identity-based differences in professional and interpersonal settings. Participants will explore how cultural values, lived experiences, and generational contexts shape communication styles, expectations, and approaches to collaboration.

Through a CQ-informed lens, the presentation will examine common sources of misunderstanding and conflict across identities and age groups, with an emphasis on increasing awareness, adaptability, and perspective-taking. Attendees will leave with concrete strategies and tools to support more effective communication, reduce friction, and foster respectful, collaborative relationships across diverse cultural and generational contexts.

Brandon Jones

Brandon is the Executive Director of Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health. He specializations in Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), Historical and Intergenerational trauma, Social/Emotional Intelligence (EQ), Leadership, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Brandon holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Minnesota, a Masters in Community Psychology from Metropolitan State University, and a Masters in Adlerian Counseling and Psychotherapy (MFT) from Adler Graduate School. Brandon is Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Qualified Administrator. Brandon is Bush Foundation Leadership Fellow (2013) and Professor graduate and undergraduate studies. He lives by the motto of “Live life with Purpose on Purpose.”

Target Audience

This educational activity is intended for an interprofessional audience of healthcare providers, including psychologists, social workers, counselors, MFT's, nurses, and dietitians.

  4. 4 Implement practical tools that support effective communication and collaboration across diverse age groups and cultural contexts.
