Approval in West Virginia

West Virginia Board of Physical Therapy CE Information

The WV Board of Physical Therapy (WVBOPT) is a state regulatory board created by the WV Legislature to regulate the practice of physical therapy and athletic training in order to protect the public from the unauthorized, unqualified and unregulated practice of physical therapy. The WVBOPT is a part of the Executive Branch of the Government which enforces laws.

All licensees desiring to remain active and in good standing must complete 24 hours of WV board approved CE courses within the 2 year licensing period.

Per CE guidelines, courses sponsored by the APTA, the WVPTA, BOC and any CAPTE accredited school are automatically approved by this board and are not required to be submitted for review. If any of your CE courses are not WV Board approved, or you do not have enough CE hours, you will be in violation of the Physical Therapy Law for the State of WV.

In February of each calendar year, 10% of active PT/PTA licensees are chosen in a random continuing education audit.
