About the Course

This course examines the effects of high peak (binge) drinking on the 21st birthday. The study included a large sample of 599 college students. Surprisingly those who drank less at baseline show an increase in peak drinking at follow-up. Peak drinking on the 21st birthday showed increased consequences regardless of drinking at baseline and the effect was sustained throughout follow-up at 3, 6, 9 months and a year after the 21st birthday.

This course is based on the article, Does One Day of Drinking Matter? 21st Birthday Drinking Predicts Subsequent Drinking and Consequences created by Irene M. Geisner, PhD., et al. in 2017.
