About the Course

This research intensive course is based on a review that addressed the direct evidence on the benefits and harms of screening for cognitive impairment versus no screening, the test accuracy of screening instruments to detect mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia, and the benefits and harms of treatment for MCI and mild to moderate dementia among community-dwelling older adults age 65 years and older.

Carrie D. Patnode, PhD, MPH
Carrie Patnode, PhD, MPH, is a behavioral epidemiologist whose research focuses on evidence-based medicine, particularly in the area of behavioral interventions for the primary prevention of chronic diseases. She is an investigator with the Kaiser Permanente Research Affiliates Evidence-based Practice Center and leads systematic reviews for the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force in the areas of diet and physical activity counseling, tobacco use prevention and treatment, screening and treatment of cognitive impairment among older adults, treatment of adult obesity, and screening for drug use. Her work has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals.
Leslie A. Perdue, MPH
Leslie is a research associate at Kaiser Permanente Research Affiliates Evidence-based Practice Center Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research. Her work has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals.
Rebecca C. Rossom, MD, MSCR
Rebecca C. Rossom is Assistant professor and Geriatric Psychiatrist at the University of Minnesota. Her research interests include depression, suicide prevention, serious mental illness, chronic disease, aging and cognition. Dr. Rossom's work has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals.
