A Systematic Review of Substance Use (Disorder) in Individuals With Mild to Borderline Intellectual Disability

About the Course

The prevalence rates of substance use (SU) among individuals with mild to borderline intellectual disability (MBID) range from nearly non-existent to highly prevalent. This could be due to changes in methodology between various studies. Even though SU has become increasingly popular among people with MBID, addiction medicine has mostly overlooked the topic. This article is meant to address the prevalence, assessment, and treatment of SU among children, adolescents, and adults with MBID.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, A Systematic Review of Substance Use (Disorder) in Individuals With Mild to Borderline Intellectual Disability created by Dr. Neomi van Duijvenbode et al. in 2019.
