About the Course

This course explores the nature and dynamics of interpersonal violence (IPV) against older women from their perspective. The researchers conducted a systematic review of qualitative literature. Central themes include the intersection of aging and violence, the cumulative physical and mental health impact of violence, and specific barriers encountered by older women in accessing services and supports.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Violence Against Older Women created by Sarah R. Meyer, PhD et al. in 2020.

Sarah R. Meyer, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and a Research Consultant with the World Health Organization. She has led evaluations of mental health and psychosocial support for UNHCR and the Interagency Standing Committee Reference Group on mental health and psychosocial support. She has presented her research in academic and policy settings in Geneva, Kolkata, Lisbon, Salzburg, Oxford and Melbourne. She has had multiple works published in peer reviewed journals.
Molly E. Lasater, PhD
Molly E. Lasater, PhD, is a researcher in the Department of Mental Health, John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She researches mental health, conflict, and climate change to promote the health of marginalized populations in low-resource settings. She has had multiple works published in peer reviewed journals.
