About the Course

This article presents a systematic review that explores the evidence for the effectiveness of psychological and psychosocial interventions in forensic mental health inpatients. The review focuses on randomized controlled trial studies conducted in inpatient forensic settings, examining interventions applicable to the majority of patients in these settings. The article provides insights into the limited evidence currently available, the lack of consistent significant findings, and the need for more rigorous research in this area. The authors highlight the importance of larger-scale trials with representative populations, standardized outcomes, and comparable control group interventions. Overall, this article offers a comprehensive overview of the current state of evidence for psychological and psychosocial interventions in forensic mental health inpatients, setting the stage for further research and development in the field..

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Psychological and Psychosocial Interventions Offered to Forensic Mental Health Inpatients: a Systematic Review created by Douglas Maclnnes, PhDet al. in 2019.
